Mammography

Mammography is a specialized type of imaging used primarily for screening and diagnosing breast conditions, particularly breast cancer. It involves the use of low-dose X-rays to create detailed images of the breast tissue.

During a mammogram, the breast is placed on a flat surface, and a plastic plate is used to gently compress it. This compression is necessary to spread out the breast tissue and get clearer images while minimizing the amount of radiation needed. The compression may cause some temporary discomfort, but it helps in obtaining the best possible images for accurate diagnosis.
